Madeleine Albright: What Prague's Past Means for NATO'S Future

A principal architect behind the NATO enlargement and the alliance’s 2010 Strategic Concept, Secretary Madeleine Albright now serves as an honorary cochair of the 2012 Chicago NATO summit. She joins The Chicago Council to reflect on the historic events featured in her latest memoir and to discuss the key lessons from her family’s harrowing flight from Prague in the prelude to World War II. Drawing on these lessons from the past, as well as her experience in the highest offices of American diplomacy, Secretary Albright will offer modern day insights on the future of NATO and the transatlantic alliance. Join Secretary Albright in conversation with Chicago Council Board Director Margot Pritzker as they examine both an historic and personal account of the twentieth century to help us understand the importance of democracy, the role of global institutions, and how lessons of the past can inform and contextualize the most pressing international moral dilemmas of our time.
