Chicago's Culinary Crossroads
The Illinois Restaurant Association is pleased to be working with the Chicago NATO Host Committee to develop Chicago’s Culinary Crossroads. This citywide dine-around will be implemented in May to celebrate the summit and place a spotlight on our diverse, world-class restaurant industry.
From Tuesday, May 1 through Friday, May 25, enjoy a unique Chicago dining experience with an international flair as restaurants throughout Chicagoland present special tasting menus, featured items or desserts, cocktails, or beers inspired by the cuisines of the NATO nations. In addition, internationally renowned chefs from some of the NATO nations will be paired with participating restaurants to collaborate on menus that truly reflect their nation’s cuisines.
The dine-around will encourage both residents and visitors to patronize our city’s great dining establishments and experience the warm, welcoming hospitality that can only be found in Chicago.
Student Culinary Programs
In addition, the Illinois Restaurant Association is proud to partner with the Chicago public school system on culinary programming to increase student’s global knowledge. Chefs will be guest lecturers at “ProStart” culinary classes and bring international flavor to the classroom through the study of global cuisines.
Passport on a Plate was a premiere event hosted by the seniors in the CPS Career and Technical Education (CTE) Culinary Arts program. Seventeen grand buffets of international cuisines, each table representing a different NATO country, were featured. In addition to the food, the students prepared a written presentation about their chosen country and represented that country in dress and action. The students were well versed in the culture, society and food that reflect their country’s soul.
